Whitby Demolition

Whitby has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons this week.

5 cottages on the East side of the harbour have had to be demolished due to a landslide, the work is having to be carried out brick by brick due to the possibility of further landslides.  Although this is terrible news we do need to point out that the events have not affected  any other areas,  both Sandpiper and Elizabeth House are on the West cliff in a totally different area. So we will be open for business as usual after the Christmas break.

Whitby Pavilion to offer more events

A NEW era began at Whitby Pavilion on Tuesday as, for the first time in its 130-year history, the entertainment venue came under the stewardship of a private company.

Sheffield International Venues (SIV), which welcomes more than 4.5 million people to its arenas annually, has entered into a 10-year partnership with Scarborough Borough Council which will see it manage and redevelop the Pavilion complex.

In the first year of the partnership, SIV and the council have pledged to invest more than £700,000 in refurbishment of the Pavilion and Scarborough Spa and borough councillor David Chance said he is ecstatic that the building’s future has been safeguarded

AA GOLD AWARD

We have just returned from a few days off and on opening our post we discovered we have been graded 4 Star Gold by the AA.

This came as a complete surprise to ourselves. But don’t panic it wont go to our heads, we will just keep on giving our guests the best stay we can.

BBC Radio Tees & BBC Radio York

I received a phone call last week to take part in a radio programme to discuss the £4 million being spent in Whitby on infastructure.

£250K. Is being spent on the swing bridge and over £3 million on a park and ride on the outskirts.

As I informed the reporter any money being spent in the town has got to be welcomed, but we dont want to be left with a white elephant (park & ride).

Back to School

The new school term has begun and Whitby is taking on a more relaxed air. Now is the time to take a lovely break, without the kids.

Top Gear In Whitby

Jezza aka Jeremy Clarkson and Captain Slow also known as James May, have been filming in the local area. They were making a new dvd for christmas which includes driving around the North Yorkshire Moors.

Calling at Mr Chips on church street for their supper. When asked for a quote Jeremy said ” We loved our time in Whitby, the people have been very friendly and it’s definitely better than Scarborough”.  That wasn’t really a bombshell was it!
