For a long time now Whitby has seen numerous visits by the RAF sea king helicopters, this will soon be a thing of the past

as the service is to be privatised

Whitbys all weather life boat The George and Mary Webb, suffered a catastrophic failure of the engine whilst rescuing a schooner sailing from Holland to Scotland.

The boat was able to make its way home but a second boat has been brought to Whitby whilst an assesment of the damage is being made.

No one was injured during the incident

A £500,000 scheme has been given the green light to convert Whitbys old railway engine shed into an Art gallery.

Work will start this summer on conversion of ther 166 year old grade 2 listed building.

An area approx 68 square miles is being proposed as marine conservation area off Runswick Bay. The area has been identified as a breeding ground for herring , cod , whiting and plaice.

The star act at the first Whitby comedy festival is Jenny Eclair.

Jenny took part in Im a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Holby and ITV s Loose Women.

Jenny will be on stage on the 17th April as part of her UK Eclairious Tour.
